| Shadowmagic, aka Jeff Jacks - The Early Years. Jeff Jacks was born
in Derbyshire, England, in 1941. He attended a Midlands Art College on a part-time basis whilst
training in a local commercial art studio, where he acquired the various art skills and disciplines
necessary to become a versatile artist, working in all media with oils being his favourite.
Originally, his ambition was to pursue a career in animation with the Disney organisation in
London, but the death of his father changed his plans and direction. During the early 1960s he
completed a course of study in commercial art and illustration through the ‘Famous Artists School’
based in Connecticut, USA. This really lit the creative spark.
Around the same time, Jeff went freelance, working for clients including Readers’ Digest and the
US company Mayflower/Dell, designing science-fiction book covers.
For the UK market, work has included greetings cards, corporate identities, cartoons, product
designs, model-making, work for children’s books and paper engineering projects such as 3D pop-ups
etc. When time permits, he exhibits paintings around the UK. |
